Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the environmental perception of teachers of Early Childhood Education and Elementary School I of rural municipal schools in Morrinhos/GO, namely: Municipal School Vereador Deusdete Damacena, Municipal School Lindolfo Alves Pinto and Municipal School José Cândido da Silva. As it is a research that involves the perception of the subject, we opted for the qualitative approach, so in all schools questionnaires were applied with 20 questions for teachers and 10 questions for the direction, structured by discursive and objective questions, all related to environmental issues. This research arose from the need to rethink the relationship between man and nature, the conceptions of development, progress and growth, imposed by the capitalist economic model and the way Environmental Education (EE) is being worked on in rural schools. The most important results point out that the school is one of the main places to promote changes in behavior when working with different environmental knowledge, however, many challenges in working with EE still need to be overcome, starting with the training of teachers. We found that the majority of those surveyed still have a reductionist, naturalized and anthropocentric view, both in relation to the environment and in relation to EE. We believe that EE is one of the main resources to reduce environmental problems, creating a new form of relationship between humanity and nature, with critical citizens who are able to reflect on reality and act in a transformative or corrective way, a fundamental balance in building a sustainable society. In the face of such perceptions, we observe that it is necessary to reorient paradigms so that such conceptions are not perpetuated.
