Abstract
This research investigates the Hip-Hop movement in Anápolis-GO as a cultural, political, and territorial
expression through its occupation of public spaces, taking into account the various social and urban
intersections involved. From the perspective of daily experiences in these spaces, the study analyzes Hip-
Hop as a practice of resistance in the face of multiple social inequalities, especially as a tool for identity
construction, with the body and public space as central elements of this urban and cultural experience. This
body is, above all, the Black and peripheral body, which symbolically disputes space and is constantly
confronted by the tensions imposed by market logic. This logic reinforces inequalities and fuels the need for
protest—against injustice and in pursuit of a better life. The research explores the historical profile of public
space occupation, presenting essential urban infrastructures for Hip-Hop appropriation processes, such as
parks, squares, street markets, and the Hip-Hop House. It also analyzes the impacts of public policies and
legislation on the valorization of peripheral culture. The study reports experiences through photographic
records, rap lyrics, and participation in rap battles. It focuses on the element of Rap, drawing a connection
between peripheral urban life expressed in music and the everyday reality of rap battles, using personal
records and materials collected from social media. These accounts are based on the perspectives of
movement participants and oral knowledge as a means of capturing the lived experience and history of the
Hip-Hop movement. The research also addresses the participants' perceptions of living within the Hip-Hop
movement and its relationship to urban space, offering a critical perspective on the quality of these spaces,
often shaped by market forces that directly impact how public spaces are configured and used in the city.
Field visits highlighted the territorial mobilization and occupation that the movement promotes in public
spaces, and interviews with nine individuals connected to the Hip-Hop movement revealed that, despite
ongoing political, social, and territorial disputes, Hip-Hop continues to ocupe public spaces, asserting
alternative ways of existing and inhabiting the city through elements. It proves to be a highly significant
activity in the daily lives of those involved. This dissertation affirms Hip-Hop as a tool for social
transformation and the production of peripheral knowledge, defending legitimacy as an urban culture and
recognizing rap battles as a powerful form of everyday public space occupation
