Abstract

It is predicted that at least half of the required increase in food production in the coming decades must come from irrigated lands of the world. The challenge of the irrigated agriculture sector is therefore to produce more food through better processing of the water used. Sweet pepper (Capsicum annum) among the vegetables grown in greenhouses is among the five cultures with greater acreage in Brazil. And it is among the most important vegetables in the country because it has very attractive food features of the dietary nutritional point of view as well as flavor. Thus the present study was the general goal to make the cultivation of red peppers in greenhouses, on two different substrates, irrigated by drip system with well water and wastewater, and using Eichhornia crassipes as organic fertilizer for the crop. The experimental design was completely randomized with 2 x 3 factorial and split plot – being the parcel waters – wastewater and water well, and the factorial two soil types (commercial substrate and red latosol) and three amounts of organic compounds (45 g, 90 g and 135 g) per pot. The experiment was conducted in greenhouses at the University of Goiás - UnUCET. Twelve treatments were totaled, with five plants in each and four replicates of each allotment. Four harvests were performed. After each harvest were determined by commercial classification and productivity. Fruits passed the quality control of sensory and microbiological. The maximum yield achieved in the four harvests was 36.54 t ha-1 results obtained with the application of wastewater in commercial substrate with a dose of 135 g of organic fertilizer. The wastewater had higher results for the average weight of fruit regardless of the type of substrate. Among the different water sources for irrigation, wastewater showed better results for the height of the shoots peppers in two different types of substrates. The red pepper cultivation irrigated with wastewater also showed good results in all parameters analyzed. Therefore the water reuse not only provides benefits to the environment as it is efficient for the irrigation of sweet pepper crop.
