Abstract

Brazil is a country of continental proportions, the fifth largest in territorial expansion, with six biomes of distinct characteristics, with the greatest biodiversity on the planet, but for decades it has been suffering the loss of its natural composition due to human actions, among which the most notable is the running over of mammals on Brazilian highways and roads. And this work aims to inventory the fauna of mammals run over on highways and roads of central Brazil and enrich the CMUEG Quirinópolis scientific collection. With a sampling effort of 267 incursions, 88 animals killed by running over were found, distributed in 18 species; all were identified and georeferenced; many were damaged due to the collision, not allowing the collection of material; however, 17 had part of the carcass used, such as skull or skin, they are distributed in 12 species and were cataloged and listed in the CMUEG Quirinópolis scientific collection. The species most frequently run over are: C. thous, N=24, E. sexcinctus , N=15 and M. tridactyla, N=13. The giant anteater, and other species such as: ( Tapirus terrestris , n=3), the maned wolf ( Chrysocyon brachyurus , n=1) and the giant armadillo (Priodontes maximus , n=1) are on the red list of Brazilian fauna threatened with extinction, in the vulnerable category.
