Abstract

The present work is result of a study what is it about Indigenous School Education and Iny Cultural Heritage (Karajá) of the Heryri Hãwa community, located in Bananal Island, in the municipality of Lagoa da Confusão – TO. We have the following purposes: a) Identify aspects of the cultural heritage from the Iny cultural manifestations; b) Understand the movements of indigenous school education and Karajá cultural education; c) Analyze the representations of the Karajá cultural heritage from the male initiation rituals – Hetohokỹ (Casa Grande, en: Big House) and the female initiation ritual – menarche – harubèdè. Methodologically, the work is subsidized by debates in the decolonial perspective, researching the representations of the Iny cultural universe, followed of an ethnographic approach, realized in a participant observation in the community. As a result of this research work, it was possible to develop actions to involve the community, as well as to diagnose some cultural demands, that resulted in production of an audiovisual material about the Karajá cultural heritage and Indigenous School Education. The entire process, including the production of audiovisual material, contributes to the autonomy and self-esteem of the community, as a place of ethnic resistance and cultural preservation.
