Abstract
This Dissertation, linked to the research line Work, State and Educational Policies,
developed in the Graduate Program in Education, at the State University of Goiás. Its
main objective is to understand the interstate student migration, carried out by
university students who enter the Federal University of Goiás as a movement of access
to higher education, implied by the policies of expansion and reconfiguration of this
level of education for the realization of a social right and the meanings that the students
themselves attribute to this displacement. SiSU), the Support Program for
Restructuring and Expansion Plans for Federal Universities (REUNI), the National
Student Assistance Program (PNAES) and the Quota Law, and as an immediate
consequence of them. In this way, the question is: after the adoption of SiSU, which
are the social groups of students who migrated to the Federal University of Goiás? What
are the meanings attributed to this movement by those who carried out the student
migration? To answer these questions, the praxiological theory developed by Pierre
Bourdieu was resumed, through the key concepts: field, habitus and capital. In the
development of the research, I used the qualitative research approach with the use of
quantitative data, in the research design, field research was used, with bibliographic
and documental research sources. With regard to the collection of quantitative data,
the UFG was asked to provide information about those entering the institution between
2015 and 2019. With regard to qualitative data, questionnaires were applied and
interviews were conducted with 17 young people who made this displacement, from 11
Brazilian federal units. The results indicate that, in this period, UFG received students
from all federal units and also from other countries, but the number of enrolled does
not mean permanence in the institution. Certain courses act as an attraction factor,
but the permanence rate varies according to each one. From the data obtained, it can
be stated that interstate student migration is mostly made by men (54.7%), self-
declared brown (43.9%) and who have entered for some quota (53.3%) . With regard
to the meanings attributed to this displacement, despite the condition of migrant students that unites them, the way they experience has particularities from the social
place of each student, social markers such as class, color, gender and geographic origin
impact these experiences . It is estimated that among the positive aspects are personal
maturity and the quality of professional training; and among the negatives, missing
family and/or friends, lack of security and violence in the city of Goiânia. In addition,
they attribute to SiSU the fact that they enrolled at UFG. In any case, student
migrations result from educational policies for the expansion of public higher education,
at the same time as constituting them, and can be understood as a strategy for
continuing schooling for better professional placement.
