Abstract

The present research aimed to investigate and elaborate proposals for the application of Mathematical Modeling as a facilitator of learning, using for this Applied Mathematics classes. The research was developed through a qualitative approach with High School students of the public school system. The activities elaborated, according to the Mathematical Modeling perspective, involved interdisciplinary themes that belong to students' daily life and in those activities, we had the concern of generating a space to promote dialogue, research skills, and investigation skills as well as to develop learning in mathematics. The applications in the chosen classes had as focus to observe the students’ participation in the activities of Mathematical Modeling and the contributions of this activities to the teaching and learning. We observe that the problematization with situations close to the reality of the students, conducted according to the modeling proposal, makes it possible to awaken students' interest in learning mathematics and inspires social and environmental reflections, contributing to the formation of a critical social thinking.
