O Jovem, as drogas e a escola : da condição de adictos à evasão escolar no município de Aparecida de Goiânia

Abstract

This paper analyses the processes of urbanization and metropolification of Aparecida de Goiânia, and their influences on the local people. The resulting social conditions, especially public education and youth addiction, studied from a materialistic and geographical standpoint, provided data needed to check for relationship between urbanization; social vulnerability; school dropout rates and drug usage among the infant-juvenile population in the municipality. We carried out a systematic review of literature on urbanization, segregation, education and youth addiction, complemented it by the analysis of medical records of young Aparecidenses kept in the psychosocial care centers, and school records from State’s Undersecretary of Education database. As a corollary, this study pinpointed the more vulnerable districts, and schools with significantly higher rates of dropouts. Local visits to verify the current educational and sociospatial status of the targeted population corroborated this study
