Abstract
The study is the report of research developed in the investigation of the process of
the pedagogical mediation that took place by means of the interventions of the
Diocese of Goiás together with the rural workers of the city of Itapuranga, in the
decades of 1970 and 1980. We try to identify the relevance of this mediation to wake
up to the realities experienced by the country man, in the struggle for a more just and
humane life, by questioning which elements contributed to the education of the
country side in the context of life of the rural workers from Itapuranga, through the
pedagogical mediation of the Diocese of Goiás, and how this educational process
has contributed to the recognition of the culture of resistance of these workers. The
study was conducted by means of a qualitative research, of historical and social
character. A bibliographical and documentary research was conducted through the
following research instruments: analysis of documents, questionnaires, interviews
and oral narratives recorded on audio and video. Then, we went on to the tract of the
collected data empirically and through the documentary reading, proceeding from the
analysis of the results obtained in the application of the instruments, according to the
theoretical support. In this sense, it is necessary to read between the lines of the
subjects‟ speech, when expressing their vision and exposing their experiences
referring to the moments that have solidified in their memories, working with the
Analysis of Critical Discourse. We have found out that, in the period studied, there
was an educational process going on, coming to the conclusion that the social
practices also teach. It does not teach what is established by the hegemonic power,
but according to the logic of the history of the political action by those who are
marginalized and excluded from the society. We have noticed, also, through this
study, that the work of pedagogical mediation developed by the Diocese of Goiás has
brought significant changes to the consolidation of a culture of resistance to the rural
workers.
