Abstract
The Genre Analysis (GA) investigates textual genres used in different contexts, based on the
social interaction of the members of a communicative community. We aimed to analyze
institutionalized dedications, in the academic environment, he is investigating the dedication
as a textual genre, he is aiming to understand how the process of elaboration and use of
dedications in the academic environment, in different communicative communities. The
discussion started with the attempt to answer the following research questions: What is the
rhetorical organization of the dedication produced in the academic context? What are the
processes for identifying the dedicators in relation to the persons honored in the dedications?
What are the typologies and categories of research analysis, linked to the research
community? Applied theory is based on socio-retheoterical analyses of genre, from the
perspective of Jhon Swales. In the methodology of the research, this investigation is
characterized as deductive, since we start from the theory for the data collected. This is a
qualitative research. For that, we selected theoretical texts about the four guiding axes of the
study: gender analysis, rhetorical studies of genres, academic context and dedication. In this
process, we define authors, texts, construct reference files and prepare catalytic data sheets to identify the selected dedications for the corpus of analysis, which collaborated to define the categories of analysis. After delimiting the research cut, we continue to read the existing
literature that collaborated in the definition of the research cut, which allowed us to define the
dedications that constituted the corpus of the study. We investigated the forms used in the
composition of the dedications, from the recurrent rhetorical situation of conclusion of
scientific work at master's level - the production of the academic dissertation. The rethorical
units selected for this study are included in academic dissertations of a public university in
Goias. For that, 68 dissertations were collected from two areas of concentration: education
and language (Letters and Linguistic). The period contemplated for the selection of the
academic dissertations was from January 2014 to December 2015. In the analysis of the
dedications, we define four general categories: the rhetorical structure of the genre, the types
of dedicators, the modes of identification and the structure of the rhetorical movements.
According to the results obtained, the rhetorical organization of the dedication presents
compositional structures, mechanisms of hybridization, specific allocation and typical
expressions of communicative communities. These characteristics define a certain pattern of
rhetorical composition of the dedication composed of the identification of the dedication(s),
the establishment of the relational bond between the dedicator and the dedication(s), the
description of the rhetorical action that justifies the link and presentation of the of the
dedicator(s). In the end, we find that: the institutionalized environments present habitual
rhetorical situations; the academic context is an institutional symbolic power; textual genres
are the conventionalization of communication; the typification is the common regularities that
elaborate and justify the existence, use and maintenance of the textual genres that validate the generic construct and the theoretical support that support them; the dedication within
hypergenesis is a rhetorical subunit within the genre; the dedications can be classified as to
the rhetorical construction, types of recipients and modes of identification, in addition, the
dedication presents a structural model of rhetorical movements.
