Abstract

This study proposes a reflection, based on the poetic perspective of Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, around the configurations of the metropolis, owing to the changes occurred in urban space, both geographically and sociologically, between these condhalf of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century, dueto the industrialization and urbanization processes, the progress that comes with modernity and the changes in the interpersonal and intrapersonal relations of the modern man.Such transformations include the break between the slow lifepace in the traditional city in which man was accustomed and the big city agitation.
