Abstract

The word reaches a representation of reality in a profound and reflective way. Through it, the human being, attending to the phenomena around him, transforms the world and himself, in an evolutionary dimension. In view of this power of the word, this research carries out an analysis of how the artist Raul Seixas approaches freedom in his songs created between 1973 and 1989. The theory that underlies such analysis is the 20th century existentialist philosophy, understanding the perspective of Seixas on being free and its chain reactions, inserted in the historical context he experienced: Military Dictatorship, a time when the right to freedom was denied by the brazilian government. The work is of a qualitative and interpretative nature, being organized through the fragmentation of the liberty theme in the following existential factors: choices, daily life, resistance to the traditional system, death and comfort zone. The philosophical basis is centered on the texts Existentialism is a Humanism, by Jean-Paul Sartre and Being and Time, by Martin Heidegger.
