Abstract

This qualitative-interpretative study aims to identify how Brazilian cultural plurality and the formation of the Brazilian people are problematized in reading practices proposed by Portuguese language textbooks intended for the final years of Elementary Education, adopted in Brazilian public schools, considering that the Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais (BRASIL, 2010) and the Brazilian educational legislation itself provide guidelines and determinations on the subject, which, from the institution of the Programa Nacional do Livro Didático (PNLD), obliges any didactic material to discuss it selected contents and texts. More specifically, in the sense of opposing didactic books and official curricular documents, a collection of textbooks was adopted in four schools in a city in the state of Goiás, and the subsequent mapping, selection and analysis of the texts, searching , with this, to visualize how the process of formation of the Brazilian people, the cultural clash between the three human contingents - European, indigenous and African - that conditioned it and the resulting cultural plurality was approached in said didactic material. If, for Ribeiro (2006), the conflicts between the three contingents are still latent and present in Brazilian society, it can be said that they will be present in cultural goods such as the textbook, in a silenced or declared form and thus corroborate them, incite or even weaken them. In this sense, the concept of reading as an effective means for the problematization and exclusion of the prejudices of society, fomentation of the emancipation of the subject and its capacity for reflection (FREIRE, 1989) is explored as an effective means (Freinet, 2004). Indicate that the texts are more like pretexts and supports for the proposition of disjointed activities of the theme "Brazilian cultural plurality" and that the reading practices proposed for them, in many cases, are insipientes and distoantes of the orientations of the PCN.
