Abstract

Anti-racist education is seen as a pedagogical approach that seeks to combat racism and promote racial equality within educational institutions. It goes beyond the teaching of Afro-Brazilian and indigenous history and culture, which has been mandatory in Brazilian schools since the approval of Law 10,639/2003, as it proposes to question and even confront racist social structures present in different areas, such as the adoption of internal policies that promote racial equity within educational institutions themselves. The general objective of this research is to conduct a survey of current theses and dissertations, intending to discover how researchers approach the relevance of language teaching focused on the principles of anti-racist education. Therefore, this dissertation was structured around the following questions: How do researchers approach the relevance of language teaching focused on the principles of anti-racist education? What were the main results found in your research? This work concerns basic research with descriptive objectives and has a qualitative approach with bibliographic and documentary procedures. This study was divided into stages, so that in the first stage a search was carried out for articles, monographs, laws, books, among others, aiming to revisit the main concepts covered in the study. The main authors used as a theoretical apparatus were: Gomes (2021), Ferreira, (2021), Sant’Ana (2005), Candau (2023), among others. In the second stage, documentary research was carried out through the search for current theses and dissertations, intending to discover how researchers approach the relevance of language teaching focused on the principles of anti-racist education. The searches for the research carried out took place on the website of the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations – BDTD and theses and dissertations were selected in Portuguese and English that were published between 2021 and 2024. In short, the analysis of the selected research highlights the relevance of anti-racist linguistic education as a field of study that seeks to transform pedagogical practices, promote inclusion and value diversity. The convergences between the studies point to the need for a critical and contextualized approach, while the divergences reflect the multiplicity of paths that can be taken to address racial inequalities in the educational environment. This analysis not only contributes to the field of Applied Linguistics, but also to the construction of a more fair and equitable society.
