A Educação ambiental na educação básica, em escolas do Jardim Novo Mundo, Região Leste de Goiânia

Abstract

This dissertation investigates how Environmental Education (EE) is implemented in the 6th year of elementary school in public and private schools in Jardim Novo Mundo, eastern region of Goiânia. The study analyzes the relationship between theory and practice from the perspective of Critical Environmental Education (CEE). In line with legal guidelines, the quantitative- qualitative and exploratory research used questionnaires applied to students and teachers, in addition to a literature review. The predominance of conservationist and pragmatic approaches was identified, with gaps in critical practices, especially in public schools, where the understanding of EE is more superficial due to socioeconomic inequalities. EAC stands out as the most appropriate approach to Basic Education, promoting an in-depth view of environmental problems and encouraging social transformation. The research points out that teachers face work overload and unequal training, resulting in fragmented practices. However, it highlights the support of students and teachers for the inclusion of EE as a mandatory subject in the curriculum, strengthening the theme in the school environment. Based on the results, educational products were developed such as the Vidda – Environmental Education website and e-books, accessible free of charge. Tested and validated by 9th year of elementary school and 1st year of high school, students from two public schools, the site already operates as a tool to integrate digital technologies into teaching, promoting environmental awareness and critical, interdisciplinary and inclusive approaches. The initiative seeks to strengthen the practice of EE in schools, meet local demands and consolidate itself as a transformative instrument in the educational context.
