Abstract
The Study presented here is the result of an action-research in which the central question is
understanding how to enable Scientific Literacy through a didactic sequence using the
children's literary work "ProCura-se um Coração", Seixas (2010). The challenging task of
reading stimulation and the search for knowledge in order to contribute to the subject’s full
development can be facilitated for each teacher by scrolling through the pages of good
literature. Using or producing structured resources for teacher's actions is important in the
pursuit of intellectual growth implementation, since it ensures a path that may or may not be
either modifier or modified aiming preestablished purposes facing new challenges. In this
sense, the Didactic Sequence becomes a guiding instrument with easy elaboration and
applicability; also enabling the analysis of possible interventions as well as the evaluation of
their respective validity, Zabala (1988). We seek to highlight the important contribution of
literature to the discussion on the organ donation topic and, thus, to the development of the
concept of Scientific Literacy, aiming the understanding of scientific language (Chassot
2003, 2008) which allows the student’s interaction with a new culture (Sasseron and
Carvalho, 2011) being encouraged to make decisions about practices that are still shrouded
in myths. We also seek to base ourselves on the reading mediation process according to
Vygotsky (1991), given the significant and timeless school responsibility as an enabling
environment for the subject’s development in order to involve him in this continuous and
constant process.
