Pesca artesanal e problemática socioambiental em Aragarças(GO), Pontal do Araguaia(MT) e Barra do Garças(MT)

Abstract

The research proposes an analysis and understanding about how the political projects of settlement and economic exploitation in the region of Aragarças-GO, Pontal do Araguaia-MT and Barra do Garças-MT have interfered in the activities of artisanal fishers of these cities. The study goes back to the beginning of the occupation of the region where the three cities are inserted, from the 1920s to the present day. The execution of these projects has initiated changes in the environmental context of the place, causing wide disturbance for other groups in the society that also rely on natural resources to survive economically and culturally. During the research, the methods of Oral History and History of Life were used, from the interviews done with the fishers. During their activities, artisanal fishers have to deal with many temporal, environmental and financial oscillations, factors that contribute to a social crisis that increasingly suppresses and encourages conflicts which impair the maintenance and continuance of their activities. It is suggested a look back to the conservation of environmental and cultural resources, with the creation of public policies that promote equality to the society as a whole.
