Abstract

The present work describes the cytotoxic and phytochemical study of Salacia crassifolia extracts (Mart. Ex Schult.) G.DON, (CELASTRACEAE). The cytotoxic study was accomplished through MTT (colorimetric analisys), Mosman (1983)). with 4 distinct tumor strains. The tests revealed the strong cytotoxic potential of this specie. We investigated the extracts from the bark and leaves of S. crassifolia, and the fraction of hexane (SCCcM-H) showed a percentage inhibition against all three cell lines tested compared to 101.22% strain were MDA-435 (melanoma), 95.45% of HCT-8 (human colon ), and 95.54% in the SF-295 (CNS). However, the fraction of ethyl acetate (SCCcM-A) expressed a percentage of 95.96% compared with the line HCT-8 (human colorectal). Nevertheless, the methanolic fraction (SCFMc-M) describes the percent inhibition values corresponding to the HCT-8 cell lines front (human colon) and OVCAR-8 (breast) (95.68% (HCT-8) and 97 73% (OVCAR-8)). In a phytochemical study of S. crassifolia were isolated and identified as lupeol, α-amyrin, β-amyrin, isomers, catechin and epicatechin and steroids β-sitosterol and stigmasterol. The elucidation of the structures were performed by analysis of 1H and 13C NMR and GC / MS.
