Abstract
This study aims to present a digital reading guide based on the thematic analysis of 100 literary short stories, designed for teachers of the final years of Elementary School. The goal is to support reading practices among students and promote intercultural dialogue aligned with their cognitive development. The theoretical and methodological framework draws from Applied Linguistics and Lexicology (Antunes, 2002, 2012; Biderman, 1998, 2001); Corpus Linguistics (Sardinha, 2004, 2012, 2023; Mahlberg, 2012; O’Keeffe & McCarthy, 2022); Lexiculture (Hall, 1997; Eagleton, 2005; Kramsch, 2014); and Interculturality (Deardorff, 2015; Kovalek, 2013). To support the project, OpenAI's ChatGPT technology was employed in the search and processing of stories centered on themes such as respect, rejection, identity, cooperation, revenge, death, prejudice, love, betrayal, kindness, suffering, and citizenship. Results indicated that 99% of the stories had suffering as the most prominent theme, followed by identity (92%) and love (65%). Cooperation was the least represented theme (5%). Based on these findings, it is possible not only to identify thematic trends and linguistic patterns but also to offer practical suggestions for teachers on how to use the guide to engage students in reflections on cultural values, traditions, and their own lived experiences. By selecting readings that resonate with students’ realities, teachers can foster a more dynamic and reflective learning environment, encouraging meaningful exchanges, promoting intercultural understanding in education.
