Óleo essencial de jatobá como agente antioxidante na criopreservação de sêmen bovino

Abstract

Brazil excels in livestock farming, and reproductive biotechnologies such as fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI) are widely adopted to improve reproductive efficiency. Bovine semen cryopreservation, one of these biotechnologies, is essential for disseminating quality genetics, but faces challenges, including loss of sperm viability due to the action of ROS. The integration of antioxidants from native plants, such as jatobá, may be a promising solution. For the experiment, jatobá essential oil was added to a mixture of semen and extender. Four groups with different dosages were defined and used in four different breeders. Finally, the study aimed to evaluate whether this essential oil could act as an antioxidant under the conditions proposed for the experiment.
