Abstract

This research starts from the study of life histories and collective memory, which main thread are reports of land people who were born and lived in the rural area who had, for many reasons, migrated to the city of Pirenópolis (GO) where they now live. The comprehension of the rural mutirões organization forms‘ of work as well as their symbolic representations, the way it is articulated with the daily life and the relation with the place lived, guided the investigation about the reasons why this practice is perpetuated in the city, revealing historical and social aspects of this solidarity present in such distinctive places. Through the remembrance reported, we also seek to address the relationships among mutirão, festivals and devotion, since the work gives materiality to both festive and devotional moments, imbuing them with multiple meanings. The analysis of the work relationships that have been gestated in the countryside and redefined in the city has elucidated important aspects of this labor in which solidarity and mutual assistance still predominate. In Pirenópolis there are rural and family communities that still use, in some way, the mutirões as work practice where affective ties, religiosities, symbolic representations and the need for collaboration, to ensure support and maintenance in the countryside labor, strengthen these practices. At present time, these practices are made present mainly in festive and religious gatherings. We perceive the relevance of family relationships in which various networks are consolidated, adding urban and rural spaces in which people meet to carry out collective practices. This way of working that migrates with the land people to the city is permeated with ethics and values from these people and has brought new meaning to the work in urban life.
