Abstract

This research seeks to investigate the divergences, leaks and deviations in the reviews produced by students of the 5th period of the Letters Course at the University Unit of Jussara at the State University of Goiás. The investigation falls on both the rhetorical organization and the formal elements that signal this organization at the lexical-grammatical level. For the investigation, a corpus of twenty reviews produced according to the CARS model will be selected (SWALES, 1990). The study is based on authors such as: Araújo (1996); Bhatia (1993, 1997, 2001); BiasiRodrigues (1998); Biasi-Rodrigues, Araújo and Sousa (2009); Crismore (1989); Feak and Swales (2009); Francis (1994); Machado, Lousada and Abreu-Tardelli (2004); Miller (1984, 1994); Motta-Roth (1995); Motta-Roth and Hendges (2010); Santos (1995); Swales (1990, 2004). The research draws on a qualitative-quantitative and interpretative analysis to describe its rhetorical organization and lexical choices to point out divergences, leaks and deviations in reviews. In this way, the reviews will be subjected to a segmentation and analysis process, considering the rhetorical structure and the lexical-grammatical elements of the genre. By mapping the divergences, leaks and deviations in the reviews produced by students of the Language Course, the results intend to point out theoretical and methodological paths for teaching this genre in different undergraduate courses.
