Abstract

The Morro da Capuava (Capuava Hill) is a place of historical and cultural relevance for Anápolis (Goiás, Brazil) being the only unbuilt heritage listed, in addition to being an important place for public use. Considering the areas of knowledge that research object encompasses – cultural, historical and environmental, this research presupposes an interdisciplinary approach between these themes. We seek to contribute to the understanding of the place and city histories, as a memory place and a significant element of its social dynamics, which constitutes and reflects local symbolic imagination. To understand the public use in Morro da Capuava, we characterize the cultural and religious anifestations that occur there, using the concepts of cultural geography to explain its potential and the affective relationship between the space and visitors. The research also investigates theoretical basis that justify the listing of Morro da Capuava from the Heritage Conventions; the process and setbacks of this register, the recommendations and commitments of responsible institutions and the references to Morro da Capuava in the literature of memoir authors, increasing understanding of the Prestes’s Column passage (Tenentism Revolt March) through the city on 1920’s decade. The research also aims to understand issues imposed by its location in an environmental protection area: Ribeirão João Leite APA. For this purpose, consultations were carried out on documents and laws related to Urban Planning and environment conservation: the Ribeirão João Leite APA Management Plan and Municipal Master Plan. In context of recent transformations in this space, we carried out the characterization of Cerrado – brazilian ecosystem – in the APA as well as survey of its state of environmental degradation. With this, we seek to expand the community’s knowledge about relevance of this site to history heritage, environmental and as a public-cultural space of manifestations.
