Abstract

The market for green corn for human consumption is promising, however, even though it is considered a more profitable activity than dry grain, there is still a lack of information and the low availability of cultivars to serve this sector. Thus, it discourages producers, as well, the generation of new hybrids and studies correlated to the technological level adopted. The objective of this work was to evaluate the performance of experimental double corn hybrids, aiming at efficiency and responsiveness under low availability of phosphorus (P). A randomized block design was used, in a factorial scheme (21 x 2), with nine replications. Two doses of phosphorus availability (60 and 120 kg ha-1 ) were evaluated and twenty experimental double hybrids and one control (AG 1051). The characteristics evaluated were ear height (ALTE), plant height (ALTP), male flowering (FLORM), female flowering (FLOF), ear length (COMPE), ear diameter (DIAME), weight of unhusked ears (PEE), weight of husked ears (PED) and grain mass (MASSA). There is genetic variability between hybrids, doses and for the interaction, which indicates divergent performance, according to the availability of P in the soil. According to the characteristics of weight of unhusked ears, weight of husked ears and grain mass, the most efficient hybrids were HD62, HD71, HD81, HD94, HD102 and AG1051 and the most responsive were the hybrids HD71, HD72, HD81, HD82, HD84, HD91 and HD101. The HD71 and HD81 hybrids are the only efficient and responsive to P fertilization for the evaluated characteristics and, therefore, are promising for rural producers that use high or low technological levels for the production of vegetable corn.
