Abstract
The present study aims to understand how was the performance of Amália Hermano Teixeira – woman from Tocantins/Goiás – in several areas of knowledge, especially in educational issues that also cover his love and dedication to themes focused on nature. In addition, it was also sought, as specific objectives, to analyze the representation of nature from the perspective of Amália, through her intellectual production and understand the vision that was built from the studies that have it as a research theme. The research was
based on the analysis of his personal collection – which is in the Historical and Geographic Institute of Goiás (IHGG) – in addition to his publications in the form of articles in scientific journals, authorial books, which cover the period from 1940 to 1990, and still, through the bibliographical production on it. The spatial cut comprises the territory of Goiás of the twentieth century, which encompasses the former North of Goiás, current Tocantins. The theoretical foundation was based, on the one hand, on Cultural History, with a view to a better understanding of the participation of the individual as a historical agent. The
following research question was outlined:How was Amália’s performance, considering her personal and professional trajectory, in favor of educational issues and as a nature lover and what is her legacy for these areas in Goiás? The results indicate that Amália was a personality that stood out in several sectors of knowledge, working in teaching, journalism, law and botany, in the area in which it was commonly seen by friends and scholars as na advocate of pragmatic pedagogical education through the foundation of agricultural clubs aimed at rural education and acting on behalf of nature. The social relevance of the
theme is to understand broader issues that pervade the history of a particular region and, in this case, to highlight the female performance in the academic and intellectual sphere related to nature, more specifically the Cerrado. Amália managed to give visibility to the Cerratense flora, especially orchids, and as a collector and nature lover, promoted and participated in events, publishing several works in order to disseminate their knowledge about education, agricultural clubs, nature and especially about orchids. This dissertation is divided into three chapters. In the first, we chose to show the life trajectory of the intellectual, in the personal and social aspects, as a subject who experienced history and participated in it.
The proposal of the second chapter was to carry out a State of the Art, a survey of the production of the writings about it. The last chapter was dedicated to analyzing the thought of Amália Hermano Teixeira from her publications, material that reflects her involvement and relationship with education, nature, politics, culture, among others.
