Abstract

The present work, entitled, “The process of productive deconcentration and the advance of industrial capital to the Midwest region of Brazil after the 1990s”, aims to understand and discuss the impacts of the process of productive deconcentration and the advance of capital industrial for the Center-West region of Brazil after the 1990s. The Brazilian regional deconcentration process took place in the following contexts: the 1970s marks the peak of the process of productive concentration in Brazil with the Southeast region; the 1980s were marked by the implementation of the state-led growth model and a fiscal and financial crisis for the state; the 1990s were marked by a change in direction for government policy, which began to operate on two strategic vectors by increasing trade openness and reducing the State's participation in the economy; the 2000s were marked by concerns about the deindustrialization of the Brazilian economy, resulting from the effects of the new macroeconomic context established by the Real Plan. When observing the GVA of the industry of the 05 Brazilian macro-regions of the last two decades (2000-2020), it is verified the continuity of the process of productive deconcentration from the Southeast region, to the other Brazilian regions, mainly towards the Center-West region and North of the country. However, this deconcentration process takes place in a new scenario of loss of industry participation in the formation of the national product. In the micro-regional cut, what can be seen is the continuity of concentrated deconcentration, with the consolidation of areas of concentration outside the traditionally more industrialized regions of the country, that is, deconcentration takes place in a very uneven way in the territory and seeks the best conditions of land, capital and labor or its expansion.
