Abstract

The intercropping of crops is commonly used in Brazil, especially in small farms. However, the actual advantage of this technique compared to the monoculture becomes more evident when the differences between cultures involved present their demands on the resource, both in quality or quantity. It is added that yields satisfactory crops involved will only be achieved with knowledge of the actual nutrient requirements of crops intercropping system participants. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the nutrition, agronomic characteristics and seed physiological quality of common bean crops in castor more consortium, subject to different sources of boron doses at conditions of the goiano open pasture. We used the randomized block design, factorial scheme 2 x 5 + 2, with three replications. The treatments consisted of two sources of boron (B = 11% borax and boric acid B = 17%) combined with five doses of boron (0.0, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 and 4.0 kg ha-1 of soil B) in a consortium of common bean more castor oil, plus additional treatment of monoculture and castor beans. We conclude that: a) In general, foliar concentrations of sulfur, nitrogen, calcium, magnesium and iron in common bean plants in castor more consortium, were influenced by the sources and doses of boron b) The yield of beans grown in consortium with common castor beans, was influenced by fertilizer borate. In contrast, the highest yield of castor intercropped with common bean, 2,040 kg ha-1 grain was obtained at a dosage of 1.9 kg ha-1 of boron, regardless of the font used, c) The system of intercropping beans commonplace castor was more effective than the monoculture, as the values of UET - 1.88 d) The quality of common bean seeds produced in consortium with castor oil was positively influenced by the levels of boron. In contrast, the sources and doses of boron did influence the quality of castor seeds produced in monoculture and consortium.
