Abstract

This research presents an analysis regarding the contributions of the Stricto Sensu post- graduation programme as a learning space in continuing education and professional development of teachers and aims to answer the following question: in what aspects does the Sensu post-graduation programme, as a way of continuing education, contribute to the professional development for teachers? When the problem raised, it is pointed out as a general research objective: to analyze in which aspects the continuing education in the Stricto Sensu post-graduation programme contributes to the professional development of teachers who work in basic education (Primary Education) in the Municipal Education Network of Anápolis-GO. In this sense, it became relevant to know the perception of teachers with Master's/PhD post- graduation, regarding the contributions of this training for their professional performance, as well as for their professional development and enhancement. As for the specific objectives, the research aimed to identify the emergence, the assignments and the consolidation of Stricto Sensu post-graduation courses in Brazil; to identify the main reasons that led these teachers to seek Stricto Sensu post-graduation courses; to identify, based on the teachers' perception, the relationships established between the learning processes developed in the master's/doctorate course and the pedagogical practice; to highlight the teachers' perception on the contributions of the Stricto Sensu post-graduation training for their professional development; to apprehend from the teachers the extent of the professional enhancement process from the Stricto Sensu post-graduation training. The concepts’ basis as theoretical foundation for the study was based on the contributions of Charlot (2000), Garcia (1999; 2002) e Nóvoa (1988; 1992; 1995; 1997; 2007; 2009). The methodology favoured the qualitative approach having as reference the studies of Flick (2013), Gatti (2007), Gil (2002; 2008), Ludke e André (1986). The field research was conducted with 23 teachers of the municipal education network of Anápolis-GO with Stricto Sensu post-graduation training, based on a career growth: teacher PV (masters) and teacher PVI (doctors). The instruments used in data collection were through a questionnaire and semi-structured interview, applied online as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, presenting the data analysis from the contributions of Minayo (2008). The research results indicated teachers' commitment to continuing education, considering the post-graduation (master's and doctorate programs) as a way of professional development and enhancement, in addition to seeing it as a new opportunity for knowledge, providing a basis for significant progress in their levels of qualification and development of their teaching practices. Thus, from the perception of the research participants, it is evident the significant contribution of training in Stricto Sensu post-graduation for their development and professional enhancement, which consequently contributes to improving the quality of Basic Education in the Municipal Education Network of Anápolis.
