Abstract
This paper addresses the issues concerning the construction of urban space, specifically in the city of Valparaíso de Goiás. We demonstrate the action of the urban space agents, as well as the processes of industrialization and urbanization in the construction of Brazil, after citing facts that contributed to the population growth in Brazil as a whole, we focus in the state of Goiás. The importance of this state occurs by understanding the city of Valparaíso de Goiás,
focus of this study, as well as constitute the current Federal District in its territory. The
construction of Brasília led to a drastic change in the state of Goiás, because with the large
number of migrants who failed to settle in the new federal capital, they moved and settled in
neighboring territory of Brasília. Valparaíso de Goiás is a borderline municipality to the
federal capital and has high rates of population growth, the municipality is within the context
of the construction of the federal capital and is emancipated in the last decade of the twentieth century, has currently (2016) more than 150,000 inhabitants. In this study we focus on the housing issue of Valparaíso de Goiás, for this, we use 2010 Census data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) to understand how the housing demands spread on range 1 of the housing program Minha Casa, Minha Vida that it’s part of the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC) created by the Lula government in 2007 and continued in the Dilma government. This housing program started its activities in 2009 and as discourse says that prioritizes low-income population that falls in the range 1 in question, this group comprised the population up to R$1.600,00 income in the period, as the program is in the third stage and it has changes in some of its features in income levels. Thus, we seek the housing deficit data in Valparaíso de Goiás through data of João Pinheiro Foundation (FJP) and analyze the situation of the population through official data to base our discussion and checking the economic reality of the residents of the municipality, to thus understand the demands for housing.
