Abstract

Veredas and buritizais, two physiognomies that develop in Cerrado hydromorphic soils, are extremely important to guarantee the survival and reproduction of several animal species, as well as the connectivity among their populations. However, these physiognomies are at risk with the human impact in Central Brazil, despite of being protected by Brazilian law. Considering that the composition of the birds undergoes changes through environmental modifications, the study of the avifauna can be an important alternative to analyze the environmental impact in these physiognomies, nonetheless, nothing has been currently developed with birds in veredas and buritizais in the Brazilian state of Goias, which is located in the center of Cerrado. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate bird assemblages in two veredas and three buritizais in a landscape of a southern region of Goias, based on qualitative and quantitative analyzes. In the first chapter, the composition of the avifauna was analyzed in each fragment, and it was inspected whether the obtained richness was as significant as it was expected, as the species were also different in categories of occurrence status, dependence on forest habitats, sensitivity and trophic guilds. In addition, it was discussed about the species with the highest values of relative abundance in each fragment. In the second chapter, the patterns of relative abundance, diversity and similarity of the birds were analyzed along the five fragments, thus, the total richness was confronted with climatic variables to inspect the effect of seasonality.
