Abstract

The theme of this study is the social representation of the residents of the City of Goiás in relation to the patrimonialized historic center. The research aimed to identify whether the residents of the City of Goiás, both from central and peripheral regions, feel represented by the historic center, which has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001. To this end, the study sought to investigate how the city’s residents perceive their relationship with the heritage and how they interact with this space. Considering the recognition by official institutions, it was questioned whether the residents perceive the historic center as a representation of local culture and history. The research methodology included a bibliographic review and fieldwork using a qualitative approach, during which 24 residents from both central and peripheral regions were interviewed to understand their perceptions on the subject. The study concluded that in the City of Goiás, some residents feel represented by the heritage, some do not, and others feel partially represented. Additionally, it was identified that the conflicts in their relationship with the heritage are not necessarily related to whether the resident lives in the central or peripheral region of the city. The final product developed was a video featuring excerpts from interviews where residents share their perceptions of.
