Abstract

The snap bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is used as vegetables that are eaten immature pods and low in fiber, within which grow seeds. Important advances in the improvement of this species can be obtained through the characterization, identification and selection of contrasting and complementary genotypes, in order to increase the yield and quality. The use of molecular markers coupled with cluster analysis strategies has allowed the selection of parents according to criteria of similarity / dissimilarity, which greatly increases the efficiency of breeding programs. It is also desirable, knowledge and search for genetic material with good features to adapt to specific regions. As well as control of seed quality is a major factor for obtaining high quality seeds. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the genetic diversity of snap bean genotypes using molecular markers; evaluate and identify snap bean genotypes with high seed production capacity in the cerrado soil and climatic conditions; generate information that can contribute to the storage snap bean seeds; and provide information to breeding programs of snap beans. The cultivars showed wide diversity both the quantitative and qualitative data, so these results will serve to guide possible crossings that enable the selection of new cultivars of bush snap beans. As for storage, it can be concluded that both conditions such as plastic containers used at work did not interfere drastically in the physiological quality of seeds, even those stored for a longer period of time
