Abstract
Environmental problems and social inequalities are increasing, above all, because of the
destruction of nature and human exploitation that threaten present and future generations. The situation has become worrying, there is an urgent need to seek, build, share strategies, mechanisms, resources to at least minimize those impacts in order to guarantee the socioenvironmental sustainability of the planet. A possible strategy and / or tool that can contribute
to the conception and understanding of a new mentality on the preservation of the
environment can be in the promotion and implementation of Environmental Education in our
country's basic education schools, since the school environment is characterized by ethical
and civic training and involves the work of raising awareness and awareness. These activities
have more effect if developed with children, because it is the phase of personality formation.
Thinking about this, our object of study is the practice of Environmental Education at Alfredo
Nasser State School in the city of Morrinhos/GO, considering Law 16.586/2009. Our
objectives are to investigate whether this school, which offers elementary school from 1st to
5th year, develops Environmental Education as recommended in said Law; as well as to
identify the importance given to the theme by the school community; and to find out how (or
not) the practice of Environmental Education in school. The methodology used to carry out
the research is the case study with a quantitative-qualitative approach, since it has an
exploratory character and the assessment of the opinions and behaviors of the participants provide an effective generalization and conceptualization of the facts obtained through the application of questionnaires. As a result of this research, professional experience, debates, discussions and general information, we can deduce that, in general, Environmental Education is fundamentally related to nature preservation and / or conservation factors and is worked on a sporadic and isolated basis through projects, especially in the discipline Science which does not contribute to its effectiveness.
