Abstract

The research presents investigations into Digital and Literary Literacies in educating prosumers and digital readers of the work “Barren Lives” by Graciliano Ramos through the UEG - Câmpus Anápolis de Ciências Socioeconômicas e Humanas Programa de Pós-Graduação Interdisciplinar em Educação, Linguagem e Tecnologias (PPG-IELT) Av. The line of research to which the dissertation is linked is “Language and Social Practices” of the Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Program in Education, Language and Technologies at the State University of Goiás. The research highlights the emergence of literacy and another type of reader in the digital context. To this end, we pose the following question: how do Digital and Literary Literacies contribute to educating prosumer readers of the work “Barren Lives” by Graciliano Ramos through the Wattpad platform? The aim is to understand the contributions of Digital and Literary Literacies in educating prosumer readers of the work “Barren Lives” by Graciliano Ramos through the Wattpad platform. Methodologically, the research uses a qualitative approach; in terms of objectives, it consists of exploratory and bibliographical research; and in terms of procedures, it is netnographic. The concepts of literary literacy, literary reader education, and multiliteracy are analyzed, considering their characteristics and how readers’ comments in a digital environment manifest themselves. This analysis allows us to understand the new dynamics of the production and consumption of literary content and the implications of these dynamics for educating readers. The research is theoretically based on the following authors: Vieira Pinto (2005), Feenberg (2017), and Coscarelli (2016), on the meanings and uses of technologies; Santaella (2013; 2021), Jenkins (2015), and Jenkins; Green; Ford (2022), concerning user interaction, cyberculture, ubiquity, digital readers and convergent culture; Cândido (2006), Todorov (2009), and Zilberman (2018), concerning concepts of literary literacy, literary reader training and multiliteracy, teaching literature and types of literary readers; and Rojo (2012), concerning the study of multimodal optics and multiliteracy. As a result of the research, the complexity and diversity of reading and writing practices in the digital environment become evident, highlighting the need for pedagogical approaches that integrate these new forms of literacy, when facing challenges that are social in scope, and that may be a pseudo-democratic phenomenon, when facing various economic factors. Finally, the study analyzes and reflects on the implications of using the Wattpad platform for the emergence of digital literacy. The investigation focuses on the possibilities for learning in a digital environment that emerges when readers interact with “Barren Lives” through the reading platform
