Comunidade do Salgado em Quirinópolis-GO : paisagens pretéritas e lugares de vida

Abstract

Salgado is a traditional rural community, located in the county of Quirinópolis, Goiás, that pre-serves a peculiar cultural identity, represented by the landscapes and ways of life in the Cerrado, despite having adapted to the processes of modernization in the countryside, especially applied to the dairy farming, and the recent introduction of the sugarcane agroindustry. It is a kinship com-munity, primarily composed of families belonging to the same genealogical branch of the region's pioneering family, the Cabral. The experiences inherited from ancestors, therefore historical, are vital mechanisms for its existence, even amid resignifications that promote changes and differ-ences over time. In this context, the research aims to understand to what extent the elements of nature, the places of memory, and the local knowledge influences lifestyle or reaffirm cultural identity and a sense of belonging among the members, as a condition for existence and remain within and in the "Comunidade do Salgado" and the social reproduction of the Cabral family. Thus, to conduct the research, practices are taken into account, alongside the socioproductive, cultural, and religious organizations where human ethical and moral values are incorporated and established as fundamental to sustaining that livelihood. In summary: the goal was to understand the extent to which kinship and godparental relationships influence lifestyles or reaffirm cultural identity and sense of belonging of the members with the “Comunidade do Salgado”. The place and the landscape were chosen categories to assist in understanding the world we live in, and for this analysis, we consider the time-space dimensions, in which culture and memory behave as structuring elements in the socio-cultural order, therefore, the analysis is based on discussions related to the culture/nature relationship, with the narratives of the individuals and their life paths serving as the guiding axis. To achieve this, through bibliographic, documentary research, and field visits, including observations and semi-structured interviews, the study sought to uncover answers regarding the nature and socio-cultural organizations of the ‘Comunidade do Salgado”, and also to understand the strategies by which members have managed to resist in place.
