Abstract
This dissertation focuses on examining the oral narratives compiled in the book Histórias
Populares de Jaraguá, published in 1983. This work focuses on aspects related to memory,
representations and collective imaginaries that permeate these stories, which are in the concept of popular culture. The study also aims to understand the worldview portrayed in the book, which represents the population of Jaraguá in the time that returns to the process of historical formation of the city. As we consider that the stories deal with values and behavior models considered appropriate to the time, working as a means of diffusing these elements, the dissertation is built between the narrators and the revealed realities. The methodology used was hermeneutical analysis with the resource of bibliographical research in books, articles and audiovisuals searched via the internet. It is concluded that the popular stories analyzed carries symbols that refer to the landscape and to the sensibilities of the rural world that characterize the space and the time understood, in which the Catholic religious vision, associated with native indigenous beliefs and African blacks, are rich of supernatural or enchanted elements, prevail on the interpretive basis of real life.
