Abstract
The democratization of education and public schools is the theme of several researchers and scholars. Much has been discussed about democratic management in the school context and after years of struggles, the Federal Constitution of 1988 approved what had long been expected, the implementation of laws to institute quality education for all citizens, with equal conditions and permanence for the entire population and the opportunity for community participation in the school environment in decision-making. To undertake this research, we defined the following objectives for the realization of our intentions: 1) Verify the application of the principles of democratic management established by Brazilian legislation within the municipal public schools of Goiatuba/GO; 2) Identify the type of position/function occupied by school administrators: effective character as a result of a public contest, by designation of the municipal executive power or elected by the school and local communities (temporary); 3) Examine whether the management model practiced within the school units favors the participation of school and local communities. In addition to carrying out documentary and bibliographic research, we chose to apply questionnaires with semi-structured questions carried out with school managers in the municipality of Goiatuba/GO, without personal contact through the use of Google Forms, extremely useful for our purposes. It should be clarified that our option was guided by the analysis of qualitative data, as the proposal was to collect information and conceptions from the research participants about the power relations that involve school management and the preparation of youth to exercise their rights. democratic, as we understand that initial training constitutes the basis for future political awareness.
