Abstract

This research aims to analyze the monuments-catastrophes of some capitals of the Brazilian Cerrado: the monument in homage to the Galdino indigenous, which was burned alive by youngsters of upper middle class, located in Brasília, made by the artist Siron Franco; the monument of the Chacina do Beco do Candeeiro, about three adolescents who were murdered, located in Cuiabá, idealized by the artist Jonas Corrêa and the monument in honor of the Dead and Disappeared of the Military Regime in Goiás, related to the violence of the military Regime, located in Goiânia (GO), designed by architect Marcos Gebrim. The monuments tell a tragic narrative of the city. The construction of monuments is a way of perpetuating, in the urban landscape, the collective memory. Considering the monument a hermeneutic artifact, monuments catastrophes are narratives of part of urban history.
