Abstract
The aim of this study was to describe the functional attributes of arboreal species in fragments
of cerrado stricto sensu with transition to Cerradão in Ipameri - GO, to describe which
attributes are most representative in these phytophysiognomies. Were sampled 10 individuals
of 20 species common in cerrados. Functional traits related to the tree architeture component
and functional leaf traits were collected. With the functional traits evaluated, an analysis of
variance and a posteriori test of Tukey were performed at 0.5%, then the data were
standardized and done between the species and a cluster analysis. The results showed a great
variability of the functional traits and a great complementarity among the species. Two
species groups were observed. The group 1 was formed by species with functional traits
specific to survival under adverse environmental conditions, such as poor soils, seasonality,
fire events. The group 2 had traits related to the success and investment in height growth and
in higher photosynthetic capacity and adapted to shading conditions within the cerradão area.
The functional traits studied indicated a great diversity of adaptations between species. The
mixture of traits depending on the local conditions, some will be disproportionate to the
others and both groups of species are important for the maintenance of these
phytophysiognomies in the landscape.
