Abstract

Urban space is marked by a range of possibilities. The complexity present in the city makes us increasingly seek to explain the phenomena present in this space. Even the cities that were planned present peculiarities that need to be investigated. In this research, we highlight the city of Brasília. The current capital of the republic was idealized by hegemonic agents. However, beyond what was idealized, there is what was materialized: a reality marked by the inequality characteristic of a contradictory world. To understand the contradictions present in Brasília, we relate spatial forms to social processes. During the research we used important concepts to analyze the research object. Among the concepts present in the investigation, we highlight here the space, the territory and the centrality. To guide our investigative actions, we turn to authors such as Harvey (1980); Correa (1989); Carlos (2007); Raffestin (1993); Santos (1988; 2006); Saquet (2015); Castells (1984; 2000); Sposito (2013); Souza (2020). These researchers were essential to think about the idealized city; as well as the one performed. The concepts and authors highlighted here contributed to the understanding of the uses of the territory of the bus station of the Plano Piloto and its surroundings. We set out in search of an understanding of deeply dense processes that produce marginal centralities. In this context, we analyze processes of socio-spatial segregation as an important factor for understanding the territory in question. For a safe approximation of the dynamics present in this territory, we work with the landscape, through authors such as Serpa (2019); Santos (1988); Cullen (1971). In this sense, we consider that the reading of the landscape takes place through perception. Regarding the methodological procedures, the pandemic scenario brought us closer to a proposal elaborated by Ferrara (1988). The urban planner built investigative paths based on a non-verbal reading of the dialogue between forms and contents present in the city. In the differentiated reading of reality, proposed by the author, the image becomes a means for fundamental reflections for the understanding of territories such as the bus station of the Plano Piloto and its surroundings.
