Abstract

Students with Down syndrome present a delay in auditory memory and therefore experience difficulties in classes based on the transmission of formal contents, and in return they have visual memory in normality patterns. Thus, learning becomes more meaningful when using play and visual support to work the content. The present research has as general objective to develop didactic resources and to verify their contribution in the teaching of colors for students with Down syndrome. Two students with Down syndrome participated in the study and from their specificities two educational products (didactic resources) were developed: a paradidático book, having as content a children's literature and educational software in the form of a game. The data collection was done through observations, annotated in a field diary; prior knowledge raising from activities (pre-test) such as conversation wheel, painting of drawings and combination of color to objects; and, intervention with educational products. After using the educational products, activities (post-test) similar to those carried out before the intervention with the same ones were carried out, in order to analyze if there was a contribution in the students' learning. In general, the students were very interested and after the intervention with the educational products they were able to identify and name the colors as well as associate them with objects, which was not the case before the research. With this, the developed educational products seem to be important tools for the construction of the knowledge of the students with Down syndrome. Both didactic resources were made based on the particularities of two students with Down syndrome, however, they could be used with other students, as long as the mediator reflects and adapts according to the specificity that they want to achieve.
