Abstract
In this dissertation, we present Leodegária de Jesus, the first woman to publish poems in Goiás.
A black poet, author of only two works, Coroa de Lírios (1906) and Orchideas (1928), she is
present today among poets from Goiás and for some years has been a subject of study by
researchers who have shown interest in her poetic creation. In this sense, we highlight the
trajectory of Leodegária de Jesus and the paths and detours she took as a black woman and poet
in times when female writing was not prioritized. We also point out the presence, in terms of
content, of romantic aesthetic mottos and, in terms of form, the use of the sonnet and
decasyllable verses, according to Parnassian aesthetics. Thus, our main objective is to dedicate
to the poetics of Leodegária de Jesus in order to analyze the themes related to space and memory
and to highlight the relevance of topophilia and the memories present in her poems. In relation
to space, the analyzes of the poems are based on the affective link between the poet and the
different places mentioned in them, pointing out some theoretical reflections on space, place,
time and image. As for memory, his poems contain elements from childhood and adolescence,
as well as memories of the past, of the cities where she lived and the places she visited; also
highlighting the natural elements of the local fauna and flora so present in these memories.
Therefore, we bring here a brief dive into the spaces and memories presented in her poetics and
the feelings expressed in relation to the places and moments lived and experienced by the poet
Leodegária de Jesus. To do so, we seek to rely on theorists and their research, such as Denófrio
(2019), Rezende (2018, 2020, 2021), Siqueira (2020), Camargo (2009, 2020), Bachelard
(1978), Eliade (1992), Tuan (1980, 1983) and Halbwachs (1990, 2004).
