Abstract
The present work arises from the need to seek active and alternative ways to reduce the impacts caused in the interaction, occupation and transformation of the Cerrado; the willingness to demonstrate the value and importance of the knowledge held by communities living in the
Cerrado; and from the desire to find a healthy way life that could that the Pastoral da Saúde of the Diocese of Goiás develops with people from the Cerrado (Aroeiras Women of the District of Buenolândia, municipality of Goiás/GO) regarding the use of medicinal plants. We investigate
the contribution of their knowledge to the health of the local population and whether this knowledge has constituted a resistance mechanism to the destruction of the Cerrado territory, to the advancement of agribusiness, as well as a result in the valorization of the Cerrado's sociobiodiversity. As we understand the importance of providing opportunities for direct speech from the subjects involved in the research, we conducted semi-structured interviews with members of the Mulheres Aroeiras group, with the coordinator of the Pastoral da Saúde in the Diocese of Goiás and with municipal representatives from the executive and legislative branches. As a result of the work of the Aroeiras Women, we have the process of building the Municipal Program for Integrative and Complementary Practices in Health (PMPICS), which, supported by the National PICS Policy, aim to share their knowledge about medicinal plants from the Cerrado in the Basic Unit of Health in the District of Buenolândia.
