Abstract

The research has as its object the work O candango na foundation de Brasília, by Sebastião Varela, published in 1981. The present work intends to analyze the poetic space in Sebastião Varela's cordel, understanding the representations of this space, the landscape reverberated in the verses of the poem, which portrays, from the perspective of a “candango”, the contradictions in the founding of Brasília. For the development of the research, the theoretical framework was adopted, among others, studies on poetry, poetic image, space and landscape by Gaston Bachelard (1978) and Michel Collot (2013, 2015), Octávio Paz, (1982, 2009). To achieve this, this research was divided into three chapters. In the first, there is a study on Cordel Literature, its origins, some of its main Brazilian and Brasilian exponents, such as the author of the work studied, Sebastião Varela. In the subsequent chapter, theoretical questions about space and landscape were addressed, focusing on studies on the philosophy of landscape and the poetics of space. Finally, in the third chapter, the analysis of O candango at the founding of Brasília was carried out, highlighting the dust as a symbol of the paradoxes between the dream of the “Capital of Hope” and the harsh reality of the candango worker.
