Abstract

The cultivation of corn for “green” consumption has always been a tradition in Brazil, with its cultivation being common throughout the national territory at various times of the year, which has generated employment and aroused the interest of small and medium producers, due to its high income and financial return. Thus, the present study aimed to identify the best sowing time and the best nitrogen dose in cover in the corn crop for green consumption. The experiment was conducted between the months of October 2018 and June 2019 at the State University of Goiás, Ipameri University Unit, located in the municipality of Ipameri. The experimental design used was a randomized block, in a 5 x 5 factorial scheme, with five sowing times, performed at 40- day intervals after the first sowing and five doses of nitrogen (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 kg ha1), with four replications. The source of nitrogen (N) used was urea with 45% N. The following evaluations were carried out for each sowing time: relative chlorophyll index, dry leaf mass, leaf nitrogen content, plant height, stem diameter , height of insertion of the first ear, diameter and length of ears, rows of grains per ear, number of grains per row, number of commercial ears, total productivity of ears with straw, productivity of commercial ears without straw, mass yield, productivity grain, pH, total titratable acidity, soluble solids and moisture. The data were submitted to analysis of variance (F test) and the means compared by the regression test at 1 and 5% probability for the sowing times and for nitrogen doses. The sowing times and nitrogen coverage rates influenced the leaf nitrogen content, the relative chlorophyll index, the leaf dry matter. In addition to most components of production, productivity and chemical parameters: pH and soluble solids. The most suitable time for planting green corn is in the month of October (1st planting season) using an estimated dose of 160 kg ha-1 of nitrogen in coverage
