Congadas de Catalão (GO) : processo, mobilizações e diálogos da patrimonialização em curso

Abstract

The research “Congadas de Catalão (GO): Process, mobilizations and dialogues of the ongoing patrimonialization” aimed to analyse the motivations behind the recent process of registering the Congadas of Catalão (GO), and how this is being perceived by the holders of the knowledge and know-how surrounding the cultural manifestation. Brazil's Afro-descendant culture, especially the Congadas, deserves recognition for its contribution to the construction of the identity memory of the people of Goiás, being an expression that resists and celebrates, from its beginnings to the present day, historically marginalized cultures in Brazil. The Congadas of Catalão are held during the Festival in Praise of Our Lady of the Rosary, in the first half of October, moving the city of Catalão throughout the year. This work is part of the Culture, Preservation and Identities line of research, using methodologies that include documentary entitled “In Paths of the Rosary to the Rhythms of the Drums: Congadas of Catalão as Cultural Heritage” and audiovisual analysis, 52 semi-structured interviews, participant observation and the examination of local photographic archives. As a contribution and feedback to the community, we proposed the creation of a documentary that records and amplifies the voices of the congadeiros and others involved, promoting their active participation in the heritage process underway at SECULT in Goiânia - GO, in which the congadeiros discussed: what do they expect and how do they attribute the meaning of heritage to this religious and cultural manifestation? In this context, religiosity and culture are intertwined.
