A casa e o ser: espacialidades na poesia lírica de Maria do Rosário Pedreira

Abstract

The poetry of the Portuguese poet Maria do Rosário Pedreira has the space of the house as a fundamental center for the conception of his poetic writing. The spatiality of the house surrounds his poems by the touching force of the confessional content of his language and conflicting alterity instilled in the subjectivity of the text. The house, in this poetry, is an open space for the loving experiences between the self and the other. However, the other always leaves, leaving the speaker open to loneliness. Thus, from this profound relationship with the space of the house, a violent awareness of its small condition of existence in the world is born. The objective of this work is to understand how the spaces of the house are unraveled and constituted as an immanent fabric of the poetry of this poet. The poems chosen for analysis are part of the four poetry books of the aforementioned author published from 1996 to 2012 and consider the books that make up her collected poetry: A Casa e o Cheiro dos Livros, Nenhum Nome Depois, O canto dos Ventos nos Ciprestes e A Ideia do Fim. The first chapter of this dissertation will address the general aspects of this poetry in terms of language, tradition and its reception in the face of poetry criticism; the second chapter will discuss the idea of space in poetry, more specifically about the space home in the author's work; the third chapter will contextualize the theoretical revisions of the previous chapters, through analysis of poems about the space of the house based on the method of analysis of poems used by the critic David Arrigucci Júnior. (1990), in the book Humildade, Paixão e Morte: a poesia de Manuel Bandeira. The main theoretical contributions used in this research come from the phenomenology of space created by the French phenomenologist Gaston Bachelard (2008) and the analysis about the space of the home of Otto F. Bollnow (2000) among other authors of the critique of modern and contemporary poetry. The proposal of analysis related to the presence of the house in the poetry of Maria do Rosário Pedreira is important, for contributing to studies on space and poetry in the creations of recent literature.
