Abstract

The present study aims to outline the overview of recent research in Critical Language Education in English, developed in stricto sensu postgraduate programs in Brazilian public universities. The study has three specific objectives: to construct a mapping of Critical Language Education research in English developed in stricto sensu postgraduate programs in Brazilian public universities fro m 2019 to 2023; to identify the research interests of these studies; and to discuss the contributions that these studies bring to the understanding and development of Critical Language Education in English in the Brazilian context. The theoretical foundati on is based on studies by researchers in Applied Linguistics, Critical Applied Linguistics, such as Pennycook (2001), Moita Lopes (2006), and CLE, such as Ferraz (2018), Duboc (2018), Mattos (2018), Jordão (2018), among others. To achieve the proposed obje ctives, a qualitative and documentary research was developed, following methodological procedures of Content Analysis (Bardin, 2016) for the construction of the investigative categories. Among the results of the analyses, it was identified that, of the ele ven selected academic researches (10 dissertations and 1 thesis), the research interests mainly involve the following aspects: conceptions related to Critical Language Education in English; educational guidelines and pedagogical materials related to Critic al Language Education in English. The main contribution of this study is to expand the understanding and dissemination of knowledge produced in Brazilian academic research on Critical Linguistic Education in English.
