Modernização agrícola no agronegócio da melancia em Uruana((G0) -1970-2010 : relatos dos modos de vida de seus trabalhadores

Abstract

This research aims to highlight the socioeconomic and territorial dynamics resulting from the process of expansion of watermelon cultivation in the city of Uruana - Goiás, which stimulated the process of settlement and agricultural practices, resulting in the urbanization of the city. The main focus of this research is the city of Uruana-GO located in the central region of the State of Goiás, and belongs to the Ceres microregion, which in turn integrates the Centro Goiano mesoregion. It was analyzed the process of modernization of watermelon cultivation in the city of Uruana, which caused a great transformation in the local agrarian space, altering the landscape of the old farms, that previously produced coffee, corn, beans, among other crops, as well as the conditions work and reproduction of the work force used in the cultivation of watermelon. This work then aims both to analyze the formation and economic development of the city of Uruana and to diagnose a serie of socioeconomic impacts linked to agricultural modernization. In order to execute this research, the method of oral history of life was used, which from the narratives of watermelon workers, enabled a reflection on the conditions of life and work imposed by globalized capitalism in each stage of watermelon agribusiness.
