Abstract

Microorganisms represent an important source of bioactive compounds with high added economic value. Among the microorganisms, fungi have many advantages of use due to their potential as producers of secondary metabolites. This work aimed to produce and analyze the secondary metabolites of the Aspergillus terreus fungus isolated from the Cerrado Goiano soil. The secondary metabolites were analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), the chromatograms were observed the presence of several peaks, being necessary the separation of the peaks for the identification and their characterization. For the separation of detected peaks the solid phase extraction technique (SPE) was used. This technique resulted in fractions that were analyzed in the HPLC and it was observed by the chromatograms that this technique concentrated the metabolites necessitating the use of another means of separation of these. A preparative column packed with C18 silica was used, where metabolites were separated by the polarity difference used in the preparative column. The extract of secondary metabolites without fractionation was denominated crude extract, where this showed moderate toxicity by the toxicity test in Artemia salina.
